Every year, the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center offers several internship opportunities. The internships are designed to give exceptional hands-on experience in all aspects of marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation. We offer Spring and Summer internships with a minimum term of 12 weeks.
NMMC Internships are unpaid positions, and interns are responsible for their own housing and living expenses.
Housing Stipend:
We offer a housing stipend of $1,000 to the first two spring interns and $750 to the first two summer interns. Stipends are offered on a first come first serve basis and are paid in three equal payments.
Program Description:
The Northcoast Marine Mammal Center is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are interested in increasing their experience and knowledge of marine mammal health and behavior. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in marine mammal rescues, releases and other field responses as well as animal care duties (feed preparations, medical charting, medication administration, wound care, pen cleaning and other animal husbandry duties as needed) for on-site patients. Interns will also help in other areas including special events, fundraising, and gift shop visitor education.
Intern Responsibilities & Qualifications:
The internship is open to recent graduates or students actively pursuing a degree in marine biology, zoology, or a related field. Applicants must be a minimum 21 years of age and be able to work for a minimum of 12 weeks, 5 days a week. The work schedule will include nights, weekends and holidays. This is an unpaid position and interns are responsible for obtaining their own housing. Interns must also have transportation as they are required to be on call for rescues. Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication and computer skills.
